Greetings!
This is my first attempt at blogging so I apologize in advance. The purpose of this blog is to discuss my medical mission trip to Africa in 2010. Yes, in April 2010 I will depart to Nalerigu, Ghana to participate in a one month medical mission sponsered by INMED - the Institute for International Medicine. I will be accompanied by my fellow resident Jessica Goreham-Voss and other residents/medical students from across the country. We will all work at the Baptist Medical Center in Nalerigu, a city in the northern part of the country. The purpose of the trip is two-fold; to further my medical education and provide care for the people of this village, many of them who have never before seen a doctor. Some of the patients that will be encountered include children suffering from malnutrition, pneumonia, intestinal parasites, tropical ulcers, malaria, and anemia. I very much look forward to participating in their care and learning more about their culture.
What's happening now? Jess and I are currently working on completing all of the details needed to make this trip happen. We did get our tickets last weekend which was a big step! I'll try to keep posting as the trip draws near, but the most important posts will certainly come during and after my time there.
Please keep the people of Nalerigu in your prayers.
